When Language Finds Us

A virtual conversation & workshop:

Fariha Róisín and Sara Elise are coming together for an intimate conversation on their late autism diagnoses— the grief, the relief, the reframing— to share their stories on how navigating autism has been in a world that limits and misunderstands neurodivergent people.

Infusing somatic breathing practice and real tools from their own journeys, the workshop is designed to help you find your own language on the path of coming home to your neurodivergent self.

Everyone is welcome! The workshop will take place on Zoom, and the recording will be available for those who can’t make it.

writing & dreaming for revolution

Writing & Dreaming For Revolution (Sliding Scale)
from $11.11

I’ve been thinking a lot about the imagination of the colonizer.

Everything we are living through in this current moment is borne out of the brutal imagination of those who use war as the only tactic. As their artillery blows bodies up in Gaza and Tehran, they have the gall to present themselves as peacekeepers. It’s classic colonial gaslighting. But the 100% fact is, war makes the U.S. and Israel money. That’s why they are so obsessed with waging war on multiple fronts. Never forget, war makes them money.

So, what to do about this reality?

When you think about it, settler innocence is a mythological orchestration that is wrapped around a little narrative of defense or “pre-emptive strikes,” but the aggression of these two genocidal entities is so clear that the question now is: Are we prepared to write the truth of this moment? Are we ready to do this examination of ourselves and society?

I believe writers are being asked to stand up and take note, take witness, and master the pen like the weapon we know it can be.

Let’s break down the narrative here of Western propaganda. Something Edward Said once said is very important here: “One of the shabbiest of all intellectual gambits is to pontificate about abuses in someone else’s culture and to excuse the same practices in one’s own.”

What story do we want to write if we get to be the ones who tell it?

This, to me, is the important work of our times.

If you’ve been feeling frustrated, angry and isolated — I am with you. One of the reasons I’ve pivoted to being an educator right now is to meet this moment. This time is asking us to dream something bigger than this ugly colonial supremacist imagination.

If we believe in a better world, what does it look like? Let’s dream it together.

On March 21st from 5 pm GMT to 7 pm GMT, to mark the Spring Equinox, and Nowruz, I will be holding “Spring Sessions: Writing Towards Revolution.”

It’s sliding scale and starts at $11.11 and anybody is welcome. We will write prompts, read and discuss the future together.

We will meet on Zoom, and it will also be recorded and available to watch later.

Please join me! Let’s move this grief and rage into the fruitful foundations of the utopic end of global hegemonic capitalism that we all deserve.

Montréal: A Writing Workshop with Fariha Róisín

This workshop will center around the themes of “Who Is Wellness For?” and we will use writing prompts to ask interrogative and profound questions to get to (hopefully) some foundational answers about the self that we often ignore or deny.

This is a workshop for anyone who wants to delve deeper into their subconscious soul. It’s for those who are hungry for vulnerability and crave connection with others who are grappling with the immensity of grief.

We will spend two hours with one another, reading, being in deep contemplation, writing prompts and sharing our feelings and thoughts while we move through all the lies within our subconscious.

All are welcome, even if you are not a writer. See you there!

I have noticed that many of us want and need direction in these critical times. But, how to dream about revolution when you don’t know where to start? How to radically reimagine when you might not have the immediate skills to do so?

This class is designed for that.

It’s through writing with each other, accessing the spirit we all hold and that is sacred to us, that we can begin to use our efforts to explore a radical future with, and for, each other.

I’ll be teaching this class four times this year, each class on the solstice & equinox, to harness the power of the elements and the seasons to gather us toward revolution.

There will be:

-Writing prompts

-Readings for inspiration and creative exercises

-Writing will also be shared

-Recording available for unlimited rewatch.

All writing and skill levels are welcome. This is a gathering of likeminded community who are have shared liberatory principles about decolonization.
